Adult Professional Development and Growth

The People Development and Skills Training ministry will target poverty and the people’s dependency on welfare and other state and government assistance programs.  As we focus on the intellect and professional capabilities of the residents in our community, the overall goal will develop the professional skills needed through education and training in specific crafts and professional trades.  Partnerships with Accredited Colleges in the area will be sought so that the residents can obtain academic degrees and be competitive with other professionals for the available jobs with neighboring businesses.  The proposed program will also assist our residents with entrepreneurial skills to build small businesses and supply professional and skillful services in the market.

Ministry Description

The Shepherds Tabernacle Church’s Adult Training and Literacy program was developed so that alternative learning could be ascertained by the adults within our community.   This program is intended to institutionalize alternative learning for development at grass-roots levels in an effort to enhance the capacity of our community to address proactively the social, political, and economic challenges afflicting at-risk residents as well as to increase their standards of life.  Our adult training and literacy programs will:

  • Enhance the levels of functional literacy among marginalized and vulnerable individuals and social groups/communities
  • Use literacy skills development as an instrument of poverty alleviation, sustainable community development, and environmental protection
  • Enhance the capacity of marginalized communities to engage in sustainable livelihood activities including agricultural production
  • Promote community self-organization
  • Empower marginalized communities/people to participate actively in socio-political civic life.

To this end, the following training and literacy programs/services will be offered to the people in our community:

  • Industry Training and Certified Programs
  • Life Skills and Personal Development
  • Financial Management
  • Adult Reading and Writing Literacy
  • Workforce Training and Skills Development
  • Technology/PC Literacy Enhancement
  • Business Management
  • Corporate Interviewing Strategy Development and Training
  • Small Business Startup Strategy

All learning sessions will be held on a regular but flexible basis, based on an analysis of the participants’ learning needs, levels of literacy, educational gaps, and expected outcomes. We will identify these through a series of Functional Literacy Tests (FLT) and group-based activities. In addition, learners contribute toward establishing the learning calendar by choosing the days and times that best suit them.

Unlike traditional community and Faith-based development programs, we will partner with industry trade organizations to provide community residents with corporate skills training.  These training courses will equip the learner with adequate hands-on experience in the areas of technology, industrial crafts, risk management, and project management sufficient enough to obtain industry-related certifications.  We will provide the leaner with adequate knowledge to become certified in the following:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP)
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

Additionally, we will offer trade skills training in the following:

  • Welding
  • Electrical/Electronics
  • Transportation (CDL)Sheet Metal
